KidKraft swing set dimensions and safety zones
From KidKraft's own product pages and assembly manuals, November 2026.
Short answer
KidKraft's Boulder Station needs a 30'-3" × 26' safe play area and the Castlewood 29'-10" × 27'. Either takes about 29 to 30 cubic yards of wood chips at 12 in deep.
By model
| Model | Footprint | Safe play area | Max fall height | Users | Wood chips, 12 in | Rubber mulch, 8 in |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boulder Station 2 belt swings | 17'2" × 7'5" × 10'10" | 30'-3" × 26' | 6'5" | 10 users, 110 lb each, ages 3 to 10 | 29.1 cu yd | 19.4 cu yd |
| Castlewood 2 belt swings, acro bar | 16.6 × 11.4 × 9.5 ft | 29'-10" × 27' | 6'9" | 10 users, 110 lb each, ages 3 to 10 | 29.8 cu yd | 19.9 cu yd |
KidKraft's manuals for both sets give a 10-user maximum, ages 3 to 10, and a weight limit of 110 lb per child.
How deep, and why the maker's zone may not be enough
Surfacing volumes cover the maker's safe play area at 12 in of wood chips (it settles to 9 in) or 8 in of rubber mulch (settles to 6 in), the depths CPSC's 2025 playground handbook uses. Both protect falls up to 10 ft, above every set here.
CPSC's home playground handbook also asks for swings to have clear space in front and behind of twice the height of the swing beam, which can reach past a maker's rectangle. Put your set into the playset safety zone calculator for the CPSC version, or plan your own with swing set plans.
