The strip between the street and the sidewalk usually sits on city land. Most cities want a permit and their own spec for it, often 6 in of concrete.
How we work it out
We multiply the driveway's area by each price guide's installed cost per square foot, then add taking out the old driveway and a permit if you pick them.
cost = length × width × installed $ per sq ft + removal + permit
The ranges come from Bob Vila, This Old House and LawnStarter, each as the guide publishes it, with its date. We left out figures a guide gives for materials only. Removal is $1 to $4 a sq ft, the figure Fixr, This Old House and Bob Vila all give, and a permit $50 to $500.
