Short answer
An 8 × 10 holds a push mower, a back-wall rack and tools on the wall. A riding mower needs a door wider than the mower: a 48 in wide 42 in zero-turn (chute up) goes through a 60 in door, but a 4 ft single door is too narrow. A 12 × 12 with a 70½ in door takes a rider and a push mower with room to walk.

A 42 in zero-turn fills the middle. With its chute up it is 48 in wide, through a 60 in door; with the chute down it is 56 in, which leaves 2 in a side. Shelves and tools go on the side walls, reached from beside the mower.

Check the door before you buy
Measure the mower across its widest point, with the discharge chute folded if it folds: the Husqvarna Z242F is 48 in with the chute up and 56 in with it down. Then compare it with the shed's door opening, not its size: Tuff Shed's Garden Ranch comes with a 4 ft single door, Suncast's Tremont and Keter's Stronghold have 60 in openings, and Suncast says its 70½ in Mega Modernist door is wide enough for riding mowers. A raised floor needs a ramp; Tuff Shed sells steel ones, and the shed ramp calculator sizes a wood one.
Wall track with hooks sticks out about 10.25 in. A push mower is about 61 in long with the handle up; some fold to stand on end.
